Intro to Soapmaking Workshop
Join us for a hands-on introduction to soapmaking.
In this workshop, we will be learning the basics about soapmaking. At the end of the workshop, you will have learned the following:
- Soapmaking safety when working with lye
- Mixing and incorporating ingredients
- Basic essential oils and botanicals used in soapmaking
- Terms and tools of soapmaking
- How to properly line your soap mold for easy release
- Cutting your soap bars
- Curing times and soap use
Participants may want to bring a hand held stick mixer (we have four for use to share amongst the group if you do not mind taking turns). You will be provided with safety glasses, gloves, and a basic disposable chemical mask. Bring an old towel with you to class. If you wish to have your own safety glasses and chemical mask, they can be purchased at a hardware or home store such as Lowe's or Home Depot.
Please wear comfortable clothing with close-toes shoes. Wear a long sleeve shirt and pants to protect your skin as we will be working with lye. You will leave with a box loaf of soap that yields approximately 8+ regular bars of soap. It will take at least 4 -6 weeks for the soap to cure before use.
You may bring a beverage of your choice. We will provide water and small bites.
The workshop will be held August 11, 2018
